The Presidential Candidates on #FightforFifteen

In recognizing the success of the Fight for $15 movement, we’ve collected statements from each candidate reflecting their position on the movement and on raising the minimum wage.

Hillary Clinton:

“All of you should not have to march in the streets to get a living wage, but thank you for marching in the streets to get that living wage,” she said. “We need you out there leading the fight against those who would rip away Americans’ right to organize, to collective bargaining, to fair pay.”

from the Washington Post

Clinton’s platform states that she supports raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $12, and that states should be encouraged to raise it higher, to $15 per hour in some places.

Bernie Sanders

“It is a national disgrace that millions of full-time workers are living in poverty and millions more are forced to work two or three jobs just to pay their bills,” Sanders said. “A job must lift workers out of poverty, not keep them in it. The current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is a starvation wage and must be raised to a living wage.”

Sander’s platform calls for raising the federal minimum wage to $15.

John Kasich

“Going to $15 an hour is not going to work.”

from the New York Daily News

Donald Trump

“I would not raise the minimum.”

from Breitbart.com

Ted Cruz

“Every time you raise the minimum wage, thousands of people lose their jobs, and the people who are laid off are typically teenagers — low-income, African-American and Hispanic kids. If you raise the price of labor too high, you substitute it with an iPad.”
